Big Game Draws
New Mexico draw deadline is March 19 th
New Mexico requires a $65.00 license to apply and you are required to front the fees.
That is tough, but there is no point system and with the money required, the odds are
better in New Mexico than many other states.
Tags are possible for antelope, deer (Coues and Mule), Elk, Bighorn sheep, Barbery
sheep, Bighorn sheep, Ibex and Oryx...
Trophy quality is great. The county around the Jicarilla Indian reservation has as
many Boone and Crocket entries for Mule deer as any county.
I had a 16-unit elk tag and got on a 380 bull, but did not close the deal.
Antelope are not as many there as Wyoming, but book animals are harvested every
year.
The biggest oryx I spotted on a hunt there was about 35 inches. You can get a bigger
one in Africa, but in New Mexico you get to take home the meat.
The world record Persian Ibex did not come from Iran, It came from New Mexico.
Although the length of the horns available now is shorter as the Game dept has issued
more tags to keep them in control. Still a magnificent trophy. They don’t smell good,
they don’t eat good, but they sure look good
Montana deer and elk applications are due April 1 st
Colorado applications are due April 1st
